Restaurant website checklist: 9 things that bring more orders

People visit a restaurant website for four things: the menu, the hours, the location and a way to order or reserve. Everything else is secondary.

The checklist

  1. Menu is HTML text, not a PDF or photo, so it is readable on phones and by search engines.
  2. Hours, including holidays, are on every page footer.
  3. Order and reserve buttons are at the top on mobile.
  4. Map link opens directions in one tap.
  5. Photos are compressed (modern formats like WebP) so pages stay fast.
  6. Google Business Profile has the same name, address and hours as the site.
  7. Each location has its own page if you have more than one.
  8. Allergen and dietary notes are easy to find.
  9. The site works without pop-ups covering the menu.

Quick test

Ask a friend to find your Friday closing time and order a dish on their phone. Time it. If it takes longer than 30 seconds, simplify.

Frequently asked questions

Is a PDF menu bad for SEO?

Search engines can read some PDFs, but a text menu on the page is faster on phones and easier to keep up to date.

Should a restaurant site have online ordering?

If you deliver or offer pickup, a direct order link reduces friction; it can be your own system or a marketplace link.
