Core Web Vitals explained for small business owners

Core Web Vitals are three measurements Google uses to judge how a page feels to real visitors. You do not need to be a developer to understand them.

By the Tuncer Technologies team ·

LCP: Largest Contentful Paint

How long until the main content (usually the hero image or headline) appears. Good is 2.5 seconds or less. Common fixes: compress and resize the hero image, use modern image formats, and remove heavy sliders.

INP: Interaction to Next Paint

How quickly the page reacts when someone taps or clicks. Good is 200 milliseconds or less. Common fixes: fewer third-party scripts, chat widgets that load late, lighter page builders.

CLS: Cumulative Layout Shift

How much the page jumps around while loading. Good is 0.1 or less. Common fixes: set image width and height, reserve space for banners and embeds, avoid late-loading fonts that change size.

How to measure

Google PageSpeed Insights shows both lab data and, for sites with enough traffic, real-user data. Our free audit pulls the same PageSpeed data and adds SEO and security checks.

Want these checks run on your own site? The free audit measures speed, mobile, SEO and security basics in minutes, with fixed-price fixes.

Frequently asked questions

Do Core Web Vitals affect Google rankings?

Google uses page experience signals, including Core Web Vitals, as part of ranking, but relevant content still matters most. Fast pages also convert better.

Why are my mobile scores lower than desktop?

Mobile tests simulate a slower phone and network, so heavy images and scripts hurt more.
